Hearings of the Supreme Court Nominee

Hello everyone,

I’m not sure how many of you have been following the hearings of the U.S. Supreme Court nominee Judge Samuel Alito. I wish I was able to take three days off my work and had watched the hearings live. Inasmuch as I’d love to have watched it, I find that some parts of it were sickening, particularly the attitude and reasoning shown by some of the liberal senators in the panel. Isn’t it astonishing and shameful that some of the senators would hold a nominee’s stance on the murder of unborn babies as a litmus test in a destructive manner, almost equating pro-life statements to blasphemy and seeking to use them as grounds for automatic disqualification?? Even though I wasn’t able to watch the hearings live, I did manage to watch some of the video recordings online. As I watched, I couldn’t help but contrast the current proceedings with what might have transpired when the founding fathers gathered together to discuss national issues they knew would have a big impact on the country’s future. It’s very painful to see some of the liberal lawmakers trying to chip away at some of the very principles on which this nation was founded.

But, thank God, not everything is gloomy yet. There is still hope for what is right and what is good. I’m glad that Judge Alito’s nomination is likely to get through the Senate albeit through a close party-line vote. I feel that Judge Alito displayed a very good level of intellect and discretion in answering all the questions – on the President’s Executive power, the constitutionality of Congressional laws, social and religious discrimination etc.

I hope we’ll soon have a court with the right-minded judges who will take the right (correct) decision on the various issues they will be faced with.

Bye for now. Thanks for reading!

- Wes

Good thought, Wes. We miss you terribly in Ithaca and at Cornell U. and at Hillside.

To your "anonymous" post I would like to say that "God decides what is right". So, if you don't believe in God, then the comment is understable.

Have a wonderful day and someday we'll have to do the blog thing as well. :o)

Take care!

My dear son 14.01.2006.
Wesley,
Iam glad that you have opened this channel of communication to express Christian points of view and convictions. I was happy to read the comments of your Ithaca friends.
Keep it up, and I too will be in the fray in future. Good going! The Lord bless you.

Dear Bob and Daisy:
Let us assume that I beleive in GOD. So, does that mean that what ever I think is right, is actually right (according to the whole world)? I think a definition of God will help here.

G.Moses writes the following:
The anxiety of Anonymous in asking to Bob and Daisy to define God is understandable. God is an Eternel Person, Who revealed Himself in history in Jesus Christ. And He becomes Real and Contemporary to all those who accept and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. This is my personal experience, who at earlier times was a communist with etheistic convictions. And this is a fact to millions down the lanes of history. What is needed is a honest and un-biosed attitude to seek Him.When one starts beliving in Jesus Christ,God gets defined and becomes tangible in our daily life.

I thought Jesus Christ is the Son of GOD (more like a messenger of GOD).

Yes, Anonymous, Jesus (or Yeshua which means 'God (Yahweh/Jehovah) saves' in his native Aramaic), is God's son. But as Mr. Moses said, "God revealed Himself" through Yeshua.

He was a completely human man who walked on ordinary dirt and made friends with ordinary people. But the one difference was that in all His time spent here with us, He did not do anything wrong. He never lied, cheated, or stole. He was filled with God's love and power. He demonstrated who He was by doing many miracles which nobody else had ever done (e.g., raising the dead, healing men blind from birth).

Then, after living a perfect life, He allowed Himself to be killed by wicked men in a completely unjust fashion, in order to pay the penalty for the unjust actions of all the rest of humanity and open a door for the rest of humankind to become like Him and thus enter Heaven.

The actions of humanity, beginning with Adam, had estranged us from God. His action obliterated the 'enmity' between us and God, leaving us the choice to humble ourselves and renew our relationship with God which was lost by our great-great...grandfather Adam, or be proud, deny God, and live without Him now, and beyond death. We are left with this choice to complete the conciliation which God, out of perfect love, will not force on us. (2 Corinthians 5:10-21)

And during His life, Jesus/Yeshua claimed to be God by saying, 'I and my Father are one,'(John 10:30) and several other similar things, which require more explanation, e.g, 'before Abraham was, I AM.' (John 8:58)
